  • Wize Guy Claims

    Hi all,
Just thought I should warn you about a claims management company. They were originally called Douglas Covey & co but have now changed their name to Wize-Guy claims. How they operate is they'll investigate any loans you've had & if they find you didn't have ppi they tell you that you've paid too much interest on a loan & that they can claim it back for an upfront fee, once this is paid they somehow can't remember how to answer phone calls & letters ect. I have reported this to my bank & to the police & have ended up reporting my bank to the Financial Ombudsman Service due to their lack of help.

        Re: Claims Management Companies

I could not see that they are authorised by the MOJ and have immediately reported the matter to them on their on-line authorisation search.Have been on their web site thanks Enaid, and could not see anywhere whether they are authorised or have even a data controller license.

I wont get a response but hopefully they will pick up on this company.

They are from Belfast so not sure of the MOJ juristiction on this but in any event they appear to be operating in the UK and Northern Ireland is considered to be part of the UK.

I will ask admin to change the title if I may to WIZE GUY CLAIMS as then this will be picked up on Google and others who have been scammed will come here for advice. I will also ask for this thread to be moved to the Claims management section where I can keep a closer eye on this one.

Thanks Fra for reporting this to us and hope that the police will take this matter seriously.

Have read with interest your comments re Wize-Guy Claims and would add that this is not the whole story!

What they do also is hide behind the fact that they purport to charge “25% of Monies Refunded” not the case. Most claims for PPI will have interest associated with it and this can be considerably more, up to twice the value of the PPI value in fact. No information on this is in their documents sent through to you or on their web pages. If you then use them they then build upon vauge terms used in their "letter of Authority" and claim this is also part of their fee, but by now they may already have your money in their account! And they also take 25% of the PPI awarded also, not bad for a day’s work!

I would advise anyone to ring their bank, and most will be helpful, and ask what the payout was they will tell you, but be prepared for a shock!

              Re: Wize Guy Claims

Just to update this thread, according to the company, the OP's case was resolved and he received a refund from Wize-Guy Claims.

The company are a partnership based in Belfast and operate outside the jurisdiction of the Claims Management Regulator.
