  • Need Help with Mortgage Exit Fees Reclamation Settlement offer

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place or something, i am new to the site.

Back in November we had a call from a company saying that they would look into our mortgage and act on our behalf to find out if there is any exit fees for remortgaging that we have done that we can claim back. To cut it short, we have been offered by our mortgage company a settlement consisting of a sum being taken off our mortgage account, plus the interest that we had paid on that figure being paid directly to us plus inconvenience charge for the error. Plus the mortgage will reduce by approx £20 per month. Once an adjustment is made to our mortgage account it should leave our account in credit of which we can do what we decide.

The company acting on our behalf are charging 29.5% for this, of which we do not mind (even though we were told 25% in the beginning) as if it were not for them we would not have it back anyway.

The help needed part is that the company wants to charge on the adjustment to our account aswell. Basically they are leaving us worse off. My wife told the company that if that is the case, we will cancel the claim completely.

If we cancelled the claim completely, would we still legally owe this company any money(they told us their charges still stand). As i do not want to have a debt outstanding.
From what i can gather, there is no way they can still charge us even if an offer has been made, as we have not received anything from our mortgage company. Would i be correct in saying this?

i hate being ripped off, so think its time to stand up afterall its our money they are trying to claim.
