Hi all, thanks in advance for any assistance!
Back in the early 2000s I got into some financial difficulties, but believed I had either settled everything at this point, or it had become Statute Barred. However last July I received a letter from Capquest stating an old balance of 8k with a settlement offer around 3.5k. I ignored this at the time, but when a chaser letter was sent last month I responded with a Prove it / Statute Barred letter.
In response they've informed me that a CCJ was applied on this account in Jan 2008
I'm aware that they would need to apply to the courts to enforce this now, which I expect is why they initially offered the settlement.
I would like to effectively take them up on their offer from last year of the reduced payment with a full and final settlement offer, but don't know how to navigate this without accepting liability for the full debt and increasing their chances of court enforcement, or forcing the full settlement amount.
Any advice on what I should / shouldn't state to them to facilitate this without inadvertently screwing myself in the process?
Thanks!
