Lesnea, it's really difficult to offer any opinion on the situation without some idea of what is going on. Can you give us a fuller picture to allow us to help you?

Basically, what's your story without going into too much specifics so that we can answer.

At the moment, all we can say is yes they might be or no they might not be able to ask for statements.

The basic details, ie applied for loan and now they are asking for bank statements although you decided not to go through with it?

Got into difficulties with loan but they want proof of financial hardship......

As a general rule I could ask you for bank statements but legally you might not have to provide them depending on what capacity I am asking for them. Does that make sense?

We can help but we need the painting to have colours

They can ask.... but you don't have to supply them.

Only a court has the authority to require you to provide documents such as statements. I see no reason why they should even ask for bank statements. They may ask for an income and expenditure statement showing how much (if any) money you can afford to repay, but you don't have the obligation to supply it, however, you may wish to do so if you think it may work in your favour, to make them accept your offer.

Who was the loan with and when did you take it out?
