  • Natwest Hardship Claim battle

Have been following the forums for a while, and been in contact with natweststaffmember, who advised me to post my experiences.

Three months ago I submitted a claim for refund of bank charges due to financial hardship with Natwest. Finally today, I received a letter stating they accepted my claim, and I would receive an offer shortly.

The problem I have is that within the last couple of days I have been unable to access online banking and make online payments. I have a suspicion my accounts have been suspended/closed. This could be due to the fact I had an overdraft on one (joint) account which was due solely to charges built up. They have been asking for me to repay this, and I have written twice to them explaining I could not afford to repay, and I have filed a claim for financial hardship. Both letters went unanswered.

If anyone can advise, can they close/suspend an account under these circumstances? If they accept we are in Financial hardship can they close an account for not repaying charges that they have now agreed to refund?

    Any advice is much appreciated

Welcoem to the site RocketRob - I got your pm before reading this so have replied there for the moment.

When you speak to the bank and receive the offer letter then please type up the relevant parts.

They should give you 30 days notice of closing your account, they may have switched you to a basic account (again tho they should inform you) or it may be coincedence that they have sent the debt over to collections. We'll know more once you have spoken to them.
