Hi, first time I've posted on here and just seeking some advice
For the first time ever today I looked at my own credit score (signed up to Noddle). On it I discovered I had a CCJ against my name which I was completely unaware about. It has been issued by some company called Lowell and was activated back in October 2016. I'm unaware of the CCJ as it has randomly been registered at an old student shared house that I lived at for about 6 months 2 years ago and thus I've never received any letters from the collection agency or the courts.
The debt stems from an overdraft charge from a Lllous TSB account in 2009. I'd gone travelling for 3 years and as I was working in Australia, I was using an Australian bank account and was not using any UK accounts. This meant as I was unaware of the original charge, the fines kept growing. In total the CCJ is for £480.
Admittedly I should of dealt with it sooner. I wasn't aware of it though until I arrived back in the UK in 2012. I was a bit peeved to have to pay that amount from what originally stems from going overdrawn by £15 for 2 days. The bank has never directly contacted me and I never heard anything so I just forgot about it. I've been a student now as well for the last 4 years as well so lived at a few different properties.
I'm wandering if there's any way to get it removed? From doing a bit of research on the internet I saw information regarding 'statue barred'. As the debt was over 6 years and I hadn't had any contact with the bank/debt agencies would this give me grounds for it being removed? On my credit score it says the default date was February 2012 but this isn't true as I hadn't had contact with the bank for a long time before that or used my account in anyway. Also, if I can prove that I wan't living at the address where the paperwork for the CCJ was getting sent to, would that give me grounds for removal?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
