  • Debt relief orders

Another question for you l have in process paying a pound a month off my debts for 12 months through a DRO . Have to pay the 90 quid through step change but what l want to know once my DRO comes into force will my NatWest account be frozen ?
I haven't any debts with them my ESA gets paid into my account every two weeks. Only money l have coming in wouldn't know what to do if it is frozen. Or which bank would accept me.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

      Re: Debt relief orders

Natwest have in the past been VERY bankrupt/DRO unfriendly and have closed accounts without notice, even when branch or advisors have said they won't.

Times are changing with new rules and legal amendments, but honestly I would still not trust them one iota even if it's just a basic account you have.

      Co-op Cashminder
opened before the DRO, or a Barclays Cashcard opened before or after, are still the safest bets to have banking where you can nearly always say there will be no problem. Internet/phone banking may be restricted on Barclays while in the DRO.

As Nibbler says, Co-op Cashcard opened before or Barclays Cashminder opened before or after are the "guaranteed" choices at the moment.

I have come across several Nationwide Cash Card accounts which clients have been allowed to keep after bankruptcy - I suspect they have changed their policy but not advertising it yet.

I saw this a few days ago http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...093&page=8#155 (a post by someone called Cobalt) which suggests that you can now keep a NatWest account open. I suggest it's worth giving the telephone number in that post a call and asking them.
