Hi, first post, hope this is OK! I have an endowment policy with Prudential that is about to mature. They have written to me saying the policy is assigned to Birmingham Midshires and will need confirmation from them that there is no interest in the policy. Should be straight forward but the involvement of BM comes from a mortgage with Credit Agricole that we bought from the prudential at the same time in 1990. The mortgage was paid off in full in 1993 and we never heard from Credit Agricole or BM, who bought up the mortgage books again. Unfortunately in the intervening 22 years we have lost the file and have no record of the Mortgage account number. Prudential also have no record apparently apart from the note on the account that relates to an assignment. And BM claim to have no record of us at all, both companies have been given full details of all related addresses, names, date of births. BM are refusing to provide the letter without the account number and Pru won't release the money without the letter (or worse will they give it to BM?)
I've tried by solicitor who did the conveyancing but their records don't go back that far
I've also tried the land registry title deed search
And I've been to the bank I used to pay make the mortgage payments but again to old
Any ideas how to proceed, getting a bit desperate
