  • Bristow and Sutor

    Hello all,

I received a letter from my local council (Bristol) informing me I hadn't paid council tax in November and they also attached a penalty fine. My council tax is paid by direct debit and I had no idea a month had been missed, there had been no warning letters or phone calls just one letter with the fine. I paid the council tax as soon as I received the letter as they were correct, a month had somehow been missed, but I refused to pay the fine. They said I had been sent two letters prior to the fine but I haven't received either of those letters. Months passed and then I received a letter from Bristow and Sutor I replied in writing immediately and explained that I paid the council tax as soon as it was brought to my attention etc etc. They replied and said they checked with the council and the charges were correct and said I would need to take my complaint to the the council.

I wrote to the council and also sent Bristow And Sutor a copy of the correspondence explaining the situation. I didnt receive a reply from either company and now (today) a month later I have another Bristow and Sutor letter "an enforcement agent has visited" the fine now stands at £413.

I am able to pay the fine immediately however I think what they are doing is wrong and I'd like to fight against it.

    What are my options?

Thank you in advance for your help,

    Kyle

Just giving this a bump for you. :bump2:BTW, do you know your local councillor and would it be worth contacting him with your complaint? He / she does rely on votes after all!

Thanks PAWS, I'm really interested to hear advice from those who know. I don't know my local councillor but I will send him or her a letter this evening.

      Thanks again,

      Kyle

Have you tried a formal complaint to the head of the CT dept or the CEO?

You could also write to B&S telling them the account is in dispute
