  • Almost 6 years up....

Do statute barred debts automatically get removed from your credit file on its 6th anniversary or do I have to prompt the credit agency to do this?

Is it literally going to be removed 6 years to the day or are there further delays involved?

My understanding is that they do not. Instead they get removed six years after the default was registered which could be months, sometimes a year later.

You are correct All defaulted debts are removed from credit files on the 6th. Anniversary of the Default Date Shown on the Credit Files.
You do not need to do anything, usually this happens overnight on or just after the anniversary, bank hols/weekends may delay it slightly.

              Hello

I have a default on my credit file due to "expire" December 2016 - will this continue to have an adverse effect on my credit file until then?

                Hi, Simple Answer is Yes.
Closer to the 6th anniversary of the default date say 6 months from removal the adverse effects lessen a little, but any default will compromise such things as mortgage applications.
