  • Wescot Credit Services

A few weeks ago I had a missed call from an unknown number - I looked it up and found it was from Wescot Credit Services, so I ignored it as I have no known debt. Today I had a "letter" from them in the style of a payslip where you tear all the edges off. It basically stated my correct name and address, quoted a couple of reference numbers and told me to call the number given. No information as to who they are acting for or what the value of the debt might be.

Like I say, I'm not aware of owing anyone any money as I've never had any communications calling in any outstanding payments etc. my address records are up to date with all banks etc so they would know where to write to if there was a problem.

I don't really know what to do - do I write back to Wescot asking them to confirm why they are contacting me? I'm not ringing them as I've heard they're very rude! Or should I ignore it till they send me something with more specific information? They do have all my correct details so if I contact them I know they're obliged to tell me everyone as they'll know they're dealing with me.

    Any ideas? Thanks

I would be inclined to leave it for awhile as these firms sometimes try it on a short while then give up if you don't respond. If they do provide details of what its supposed to be about then you can make enquiries with that firm to get the data. Alternately, you can write to them if they keep on and demand evidence of any debt.

You are quite right never to ring these jokers and to make it clear that you won't play their games when they try to intimidate you.
