  • New Day Limited/Santander cards

Just a quick heads up, have just paid off the comet card (WOOHOO) and spoke to Santander card who issued it, got through to a real class act, gave 4 numbers and he didn't understand that I was giving him an account number :mad2:

I explained the card was my hubands and he wanted me to give the account number as the idiot as lost his glasses, and that i wanted to pay the card off, he then told me it was £137 to clear the account and took a payment, then asked for security details from Hubby and failed him on DPA.... AFTER telling me how much he owed and confiriming his account number was correct and that £137 would clear the account!!

I called back to complain and got told I was through to New Day Ltd, had to ask 5 times who New Day Limited where, resorted to WHO.... IS..... NEW.... DAY..... LIMITED??? to be told that they now own the books for Santander cards!!

All I can say is, ICO here I come and DO NOT deal with these goons, they honestly have no idea what they are doing!!!

    Re: New Day Limited/Santander cards

Much like you I have been 'trying' to pay off my old Comet card to Santander and their equally crazy debt collecting companies.
A few months ago, believing I had already finished paying but without anyway of checking, I cancelled my direct debit at my bank.
I naturally thought if there was anything outstanding they would contact me. I must mentioned I have moved and now live in Spain but had notified of my daughters address to any relevant companies and given her phone number. (I was not sure they knew it but they called her and she gave me their number to call back.
This was a 'premium rate' number and I was not able to dial it by ANY method from Spain. After many hours of searching the internet and many various departments of Santander I finally got to speak to someone who I thought was able to help resolve things.
I agreed then and there to re-start the direct debit and as there was more outstanding than I realised I settled on the minimum monthly payment and gave them my new address and details for contact.
Shortly after I found that my current bank account had been debited for the full amount and this left me without funds at all for a while. I immediately called my bank who offered to reclaim the money - which they did.
After another several hours of effort I once again managed to contact 'someone' at Santander who apologised and said they would set up the direct debit properly at the minimum payment again.
A month or two passed and I received a letter from a debt collection agency asking for payment.
I then checked my bank account to see if the previous months had been paid - yes but they had been returned the following day ????
ANOTHER few hours spent trying to call unobtainable numbers including the one given by the debt agency and I got nowhere and no help.
I finally managed to send an email to Santander complaints dept who had someone call me but once again had no clue as to what was involved.
Finally I decided to do my own thing and set up a Standing order to pay into the card account only to discover that payments were once again being returned the following day.
This evening I got another letter in the mail from NEW DAY giving only a phone number which , ONCE AGAIN, I cannot call from SPAIN ! The letter has no address and no email ?
I have yet to come across a worse company to TRY AND PAY and am verging on giving up and let them go to court. I have tried everything short of going back to the UK which I cannot afford.
IS there something special about these dept companies who publish NO DETAILS other than a useless phone number for contact ??? I cant help but be suspicious that something is wrong ?

New Day must now have Marbles Card accounts as well, as they are ignoring the FOS in relation to a complaint I submitted in February of this year.
They applied for an extension of time to respond to her recommendation, the deadline being yesterday, but staill not a word from them. The Ombudsman has even had to leave a message for a callback!

        Re: New Day Limited/Santander cards

I just got a letter from NEW DAY explaining that they were taking over a Comet account that I thought I had paid off about a year ago, I called the premium rate number to try to sort it out. answered all the automated questions and was told by the automated system that I had £25 pounds in the account, "not sure if this was + or - 25 though. Curious, I decided to speak to a real person and answered all the questions again, then to be told that my answers had failed the security test and I could not be helped anymore and would have to write to the HQ in Leeds, they would not give me a telephone number for Leeds and were a total waste of space. I just want to confirm that I have paid it off and want to close the account I didn't know I still had. The Scam alarm bells were ringing when I first saw the letter and this has not helped my bad feeling.

Just had to deal with Newday limited and they were awful i had accidentally missed one payment, have had a House of Fraser card for years and years, and the person who talked to me was awful and really aggressive. Most of what she said i could not understand as she spoke so fast and sounded so angry and wanted to end the call asap. Made a payment as she was still rude towards me. I have raised a complaint on the newday website but not hopefully of a reply.
