Hi,
Mum is 75 and recently widowed. Last year, she applied for a credit card with a mainstream high street bank. She applied online and thought that there had been a glitch during the process. She logged back on later in the day and was accepted. Immediately after, two cards arrived—identical cards with identical credit limits of 4k each. Her customer numbers are just one digit apart, so it looks as though a system error has basically generated two active cards.
This was at a difficult period in her life, and whilst we accept that the lender could not have known that, it seems irresponsible that she was allowed 2 identical cards on the same day. She has a pension income made up of state pension and also a very small private pension. We are also now aware that at the time of the application she had 3 other credit cards that were all at or close to their limit and being paid at just minimum levels
Mum has used the cards. I wish she hadn't but she has. They offered her a false sense of security and a way of carrying on without having to ask us for help - until now that is.
Is it not irresponsible of the lender to allow her to have two of the same cards on the same day? Surely this is a mistake? We would like to ask the lender to waive any interest as this kicks in soon ( end of 0% offer).
Would we have a chance of a successful irresponsible lending claim?
