Hello,
I bought a convertible car that was delivered on April 20th 2022.i bought it from an authorised dealer far from my home. It was a 2020 model with 7k on the clock. I paid in full, with the deposit on a credit card.
In September, I noticed some rust on the frame of the roof. I took it to my local authorised dealer (not the same group as I purchased from), the warranty company of the manufacturer authorised a repair under warranty. It went off to the body shop chosen by my local dealer. They said it cannot be repaired, the whole roof needs replacing.
The car manufacturer will not authorised a major repair such as this, I am told because if they do so it affects the integrity of the car. "It might not go back right".
So, the authorised body shop say it needs replacing. The manufacturer won't do it. I've spoken with the dealer I purchased from who say they have to have the car and repair it. But I don't want to do that, one authorised repairer says it needs replacing, the manufacturer says it can't be replaced. Parts for the frame are not available, you either buy the whole roof or nothing. So I suspect what they will be doing is putting some rust convertor on the bits I can see and painting over it. I don't want this, who knows if the rest of the frame is rusty? The warranty is up soon (for what it's worth) and if the roof fails after that, the car will be scrap value.
I do realise the dealer I purchased from has the right to inspect the car but I don't want it repaired when they've already said it needs replacing. What would you advise I do from here?
Many thanks.
