  • Debt harassment

I’m just after some advice please, I have an old credit card debt ( will be statue barred in a few months. ) The debt was sold to Cabot a while ago having heard nothing for years so I sent a CCA request as the credit card was first opened in 2005 and in my maiden name, eventually they replied in writing to say they are unable to provide this information and therefore the debt is not legally enforceable however they still want payment and keep calling and writing. I have so far ignored them and never acknowledged the debt, As soon as it’s statute barred I will send them a standard statue letter however what can I do in the meantime? Or do I just continue to ignore them
    thanks in advance

    Hi ROXY123

Yes, just ignore them, unless they send you a Letter Before Action, in which case you should update the thread.

You can use TPS to block calls.

You seem to have opened a can of worms by sending a CCA request instead of letting sleeping dogs lie.

In what way are you being harassed?

You have a tricky situation here, each state has its own laws, and you need to contact a specialist who understands taxes. Otherwise, I would advise you to look at the articles about taxes on this site -- https://www.greedyrates.ca/, maybe you will find something useful for yourself. But you really have an unusual and interesting situation, so turn to a tax adviser, especially since you have money many times you can afford to buy a plane and at the same time leave it in another state, haha. The main thing is to find out about it as soon as possible so that later you don't have problems with the IRS and taxes.

Did you have PPI on the credit card?
