  • Lowell Solicitors = Scam?

    Hi All,

I have been getting letters from Lowell Debt collectors over the past 6-12 months, all for debt I don't have. They've now sent this one (attached) claiming I've got a CCJ in arrears (I don't, i've checked Equifax). I also don't even have the debt highlighted by them either. No defaults, nothing. Literally nothing on my record. I did have a CCJ over 10 years ago for another case I disputed back then, but that was a 'debt' with a University and has left my record.

Anyways, should I just let them keep on sending letters or can I file a report with the Police for harassment?

If you think this letter is legit then can you answer the following questions:

    1) Why isn't the CCJ or any of the debt they say I have on my Equifax?

    2) This appears to be a debt owed to Three Mobile. I have been on Giff Gaff for over 10 years. I've not had a contract phone since I was in my teens (over 15 years ago). Therefor, even if i did have this debt over 10 years ago (which i'm 99% sure it's not mine), then by being a debt over 7 years old, it is unable to be chased or given a CCJ anyways.

I've not made any contact with Lowell's since they started sending letters. I know that talking to them may mean I take ownership of this debt.

Any thoughts on this or advice?

Thanks for all of your help.

Talking to them doesn't mean you take ownership. You write to them and refute any liability for the alleged debt.

if they are certain you are the debtor then they must supply further information about the matter, and at the very minimum the court and claim number

I had letters from Llowell saying I had opened a new catalogue account in October 2015 and the debt was for £1500, it was on my credit file and because it was showing as no payments were made I couldn't get rid.In the end I wrote to them and rang them and told them we had gone into an I.V.A in June 2015 so there was no way this was my debt. They didn't believe me.So in the end after going through Resolver via Martin Lewis Money Supermarket Llowell finally wrote the debt off in 2020.
They just kept on saying it my account as it had my details on it,and they finally removed it off my credit file.
