  • Bailiffs looking for person who has moved

    Good day,

Yesterday we received a warning letter that a person owns some money. It said the collectors are going to come to claim his stuff to sell on public auction.

The problem is that the person does not live at the address anymore. I am renting the place and apparently that guy was there about 3 years ago.

My landlord called the bailiffs (JBW) and I called the agent. I didn't really get anywhere. The long story short was I should not worry about it. However I do not want people coming to my door and arguing with me (or my flatmates) that he is there.

    What can/should I do?

    Thank you very much.

P.S. sorry if there are holes in the explanation. If you require something else please let me know.
    1) I do not know what information you require to help me.
    2) I am writing from my workplace.

Seal envelope up, write "Return to sender no longer lives at this address" on it, next time any post comes for him/her don't open it & do the same.
Sorry i'm just thinking out loud, it might be irrelevant, I am not employed in anyway in the legal profession, please ensure you research any advice I give before using it I have been known to be wrong on multiple occasions.

It was not an envelope. It was an A4 paper with big red letters on one side (WARNING, LAST NOTICE etc.) and on other side some form.

Can I send that back as well?

It's no good returning letters as "Gone away" or similar as Bailiffs see this day in and day out, surprising how many of the people they are looking for hide in wardrobes or under beds.

If he calls then show him a copy of your tenancy agreement & your ID and then ask him to leave quietly. Do not get into a slanging match with him. They have other ways of tracing debtors.
