Hi everyone,
I have read up on this but am getting confused. I am in an arrangement to pay with Idem for 15 per month - it will take circa 60 plus years to clear the 10,000 on this debt. I had to give up full time employment due to my child being seriously ill.
My father has offered me money to settle my debt. It wont be the whole amount though. My query is as follows:
Credit card went into arrears in 2008/9 when I had to stop working. I did a request for information - sent off the ten pounds and got a copy of my file such as it was. Shortly afterwards the account was sold to /managed by Idem.
My debt is over 7k in arrears on a 10k balance but a default has never been registered. From reading information on various sites, I think MBNA should have defaulted my account prior to it being transferred to IDEM.
Nobody has registered a default and my account on the credit agencies shows AP for the last 15 months with up to six months of arrears showing at various points before that. MBNA doesnt show, only IDEM which makes sense.
I believe if a default had been registered it would now be about to fall off my credit file. But as it wasnt, if IDEM accept a lower amount to settle that will stay on my credit file for six years. Is that correct?
Is there anything I can do? I complained to the credit agencies and they raised a query with Idem but the response was Idem wanted to discuss this by phone. I tend to avoid phone calls where possible and do everything in writing. I have written to them and emailed them but they just keep sending me an affordability questionnaire. I filled up one last year and nothing has changed.
I could do with some advice please, thank you
