I suggest you treat the debt and the default as separate matters.

Phone up Lowells and ask what you should do to settle the debt. They will be more than happy to tell you.

Then write to orange and ask them to delete the default as a matteer of goodwill, pointing out that your wife has settled the debt as soon as she became aware of it.

When speaking to Orange, they said its been passed on, so cant really help - speak to lowells.

In the credit file, its sitting with lowells, so wouldnt it be lowells who would remove it? or can orange remove it too?

        thanks

1/ Pay the balance with a different named card than the one the debt is on
2/ Respond to their letter, in writing with the confirmation receipt and request the close the issue?

          Thanks,
Yes do so to get ahead of the game, so send asap.

You can't do this sort of thing by phone, you can never get to speak to anyone who understands anything about credit records.

All a debt collector like Lowell's can do is use the default date that was provided by the original creditor (unless the original creditor didn't update the CRA .)

You have to write to the data controller at the original creditor and ask them to correct the default date. if they do, then the debt collectoprn will then have to follow. If they don't, then you can complain to the ICO.

The call was to Orange, not unreasonable to make contact to see if the company has any relevant information.
