Well, there are the three credit reference agencies known to most people - Call Credit, Equifax and Experian - and then there's the other CRA which the banks preferred to keep secret, N Hunter (link).

They appear to claim that they don't, but I'd be more likely to trust the (late) baby-eating Bishop of Bath and Wells.

If an investigation clearly shows HSBC are not in any way at fault, then this throws the spotlight on MKRR and it is they and, possibly, a tracing agency they have used who have to explain how they came by the OP's details.

Section 35(2), Data Protection Act 1998 states -

Personal data are exempt from the non-disclosure provisions where the disclosure is necessary -

          a. for the purpose of, or in connection with, any legal proceedings (including prospective legal proceedings), or

          b. for the purpose of obtaining legal advice

or is otherwise necessary for the purposes of establishing, exercising or defending legal rights.

If HSBC say they have no record on their systems, then it does sound very much that MKRR have seriously fouled-up.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.
