  • Overpayment of salary, repayments in process- passed to debt collector??? Help please

Hi all, I wondered if it was possible to have a little advice please?
I was overpaid salary some time ago and arranged a repayment schedule (minimal amount) which we have paid monthly over the past few years. I last contacted the local authority in question in 2008 to inform them of a change of address and wish to increase the payments but heard nothing and continued to pay the monthly agreed amount. I have recently had a letter from a debt company (not the la!!) advising that the want all of the amount plus interest, and am a little confused...
Any ideas/ advice would be really appreciated! I have left a message with the debt firm with my contact details and explaining I had an agreement in place but I'm not sure what else to do ( apart from a small cry!!!)

I would email the Chief Executive of the Local Authority and ask for an explanation. Do not respond to the debt collection agency at all.

I have now sent the email. Thanks for that advice.

Worryingly I have nothing from the la to say they have passed on the debt.

it just all seems a bit off that they did not contact me directly...

          Out of interest.

Was the LA adding charges to the debt, or was this just the DCA's idea ?

Hi all, thank goodness it is all now sorted! DCA contacted the LA after they sent the letter in error - they had only been actioned to locate my address as the LA had lost it! All is well - thanks so much for your calming words - and especially to Leclerc - I think the email really help get things sorted ASAP! Perhaps some sleep tonight!!

A pleasure as always. Sometimes when someone outside takes a look then they see what may have been there all along
