  • Clean Up Your Credit File mailshot from Tyler Morgan

OK - an attention-grabbing header perhaps - but this is a new one on me. It's actually a dual-purpose post, so I'll kick off with the pre-amble and point #1. Up here in Jockland, we have things called 'Trust Deeds,' which are the Scottish equivalent of IVA's down in Olde England. I've had one, and so has my Son-in-Law (we're a feckless bunch, eh ?) - both now discharged over three years ago. Well - just recently, my SIL showed me the attached letter from Tyler Morgan Claims Ltd., and asked what it was all about. I said it looks like they are offering to help you get your damaged credit file fixed for £2 plus a donation of 8 First-class stamps.

Then I said I can probably ask my mates here how to do it for nowt, anyway. It's not my area of combat - so can anyone help with this ? After an IVA/Trust Deed has been discharged for the required period of time, does one's credit file remain damaged ? If so, how does one go about getting it fixed without a load of expense or litigation ?

Point #2 is that it then became apparent that this was a nifty little leader into a PPI reclaim CMC . With the covering letter came what looked like a legitimate Equifax Credit File Request - but their instructions following this seemed to be cleverly worded to lead peeps down their own little garden path. So - they also enclosed their glossy "After Your Trust Deed News" (also attached). Page 1 is mostly focussed on the Credit File repair, but it then swiftly 'channels' into PPI reclaiming. It all seems fairly OK., but then I saw that they are charging 25% plus VAT of our winnings, and the light finally started flashing for me. Yeah - I'm a bit slow - but I got there eventually !!

So - I'm assuming that what is public knowledge is the fact that we have discharged IVA's/Trust Deeds, and that part of that public knowledge is our names and addresses, and this outfit has cottoned-on to the fact that they can identify a possible PPI DMP market from that, and are milking it. I doubt if we can do much about that, but can we check out if these guys are genuinely and properly registered, etc., etc., etc ?

BUT - Point #1 still remains - do we have a guide to repairing our Credit File after IVA/Trust Deed discharge - or can someone help with this ? Thanks for reading this far, whoever you are !!!

Firms like this also find out the latest CCJs and write to people saying they can reduce their payments.
I personally don't think info like this should be up for grabs by any Tom, Dick or Harry, but that's just me.

Had to make an extra post to attach it - but here is the Equifax DPA s.7 Credit File request form, as received.

Thanks for the response, Di. I agree - there was a time when the the pillory, the debtors' prison and the Poorhouse were functional. It seems that of all those, the mediaeval pillory still remains.
