Lowells - not sure if I do owe them money

Today I received a letter from Lowells Portfolio 1 stating that I have failed to pay my debt and the account will be referred to Lucas Credit Services. The debt is £7,168 and was originally with First Financial Limited. The problem is, I can't remember if I ever had a loan with First Financial and if I did, if any amount is still outstanding. I did take out a loan when I was at my previous employer, but that was over 6 years ago and I can't remember who the company was.

Please can you advise what I should do next? Should I ask Lowells for proof of the debt or just ignore them?

I would suggest you send a prove it letter, just in case. DONT sign it, print your name, here is a sticky to the layout of a prove it letter, and how to deal with them. I will ask this thread be moved to the Lowells catergory, and get you in the experts eye line

If the debt was over six years ago and no payment has been made towards it within the last 6 years (5 years if in scotland) then it is statute barred and lowells can go swivel for it!

As this is the FIRST contact on this matter I would simply hold fire and see if they can be bothered to write again.
If they do then fire off a simple Prove It and see what it shakes loose..
