  • Final Reminder Council "Repair"

Hi I am pretty desperate to know where I stand on this.
I have today picked up a letter which was posted to my former address where my brother now resides.
I transfered my council tenancy to him on the 7th June. I have a FINAL REMINDER dated 8th June (although I moved out on the 7th!) for an alleged "repair" to the front door of the property.
Basically my brother locked himself out on new years eve when I was away and he damaged the door to gain entry. He phoned the council and told them. They insisted on an "emergency repair in order to 'secure' the property". My brother insisted that they didnt need to attend as the door was secured with the fitted deadbolts from the inside and he could use the back door for access.
They came anyway, screwed a 2ft square piece of plywood over the door, screwed the door directly into the frame (causing futher damage to said frame) and then sent me a bill in MY name for over £80!
I did not ask them to do the work. I did not agree to pay for the work. I do not agree the work is satisfactory. I believe the cost is extortionate!
I complained to the council and Kier (who did the 'repair') have done an internal investigation and (surprise surprise) have rejected the complaint on the grounds that they have followed correct procedure.
However I still have cause for complaint as the council took instruction from my brother and he was not the tenant at that time so they should not have discussed it with him.
What do I do next the last thing I need is a CCJ!
Thanks for your time if you are unable to respond could you please point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

    Re: Final Reminder Council "Repair"

Consider making a complaint to Local Government Ombudsman Home

Make sure you have a "final response" letter first.

What you need to do is get hold of a copy of their repairs guidance and see how they should be handling these types of repairs. I suspect that if they followed everything to the letter then the tenant is liable for such repairs.
