  • Please help me!

    Hi

I am at the end of my tether, i recently received a "Notice" from Regal Credit Services regarding a debt that is owed for £110.29 i wrote to them sending them a "prove it " letter and i also complained to the FOS due to the way i was spoken to by one of the agents, i contacted the FOS regarding the matter as i felt that i was getting no where with them, they are saying that i owe them £110.29 which is in dispute, as i only owed £85.29, The FOS have written to this company and sent me a complaint form also.

I eventually heard from Regal today saying that i had complained via the FOS and that i hadn't given them the opportunity to resolve my issue with them first and that i had not contacted them in regards to any letters they had sent me, (i contacted them the 1st day i received their letter then spoke to 2 of their agents on the same day, The letter then says "that aside, i have listened to the calls that you made to our agents"....?????????? I am being completely thick or is that a contradiction?????

I cannot work this company out, At the end of the letter it goes on to say that they will set up a payment plan at £15 pm for 6 months etc and to contact the office to put this in place (the letter was signed by the collections director).

The whole reason i complained to the FOS was that when i did make contact with the company the first and second time i was spoken to like s%%T, i asked to speak to a manager and he was 10 x worse, didnt want to listen to what i had to say and that he was not interested and that they were a "debt collectors not customer services" and he confirmed that is how they speak to people,(like s%%t, he said you havn't bothered to pay the debt off with their client and now they were chasing me for the money all they were interested in was getting this money and nothing else. He was not prepared to negotiate and i couldn't get a word a word in edgeways.

I called back today to confirm the setup of the payment plan and to confirm how this was going to be funded, guess who answered..... U got it, the same ignorant, abusive obnoxious man i spoke to before.....

This time when i spoke to him i tried to stand my ground, i told him that i thought his attitude stinks and that he was very rude and abusive and that all i had done today was called to confirm the setup of the payment plan (agreed by the director)... same thing happened tried to tell me he wasn't interested in what i had to say and that he was there to take my money.. althought the notes clearly stated what had been agreed and why i was calling back!

I am fuming....... shall i continue my complaint, i have had part of my complaint resolved by the fact that they are willing to offer me a payment plan, but what i am still miffed by, is the fact that this man is allowed to get away with speaking to people like that, i am absolutely terrified now to recontact them to make sure that the payment plan is in place in case he answers again.

    What shall i do?????

    Re: Please help me!

There is no need whatsoever to speak to him or any other employee again. Do not contact them by phone again. Make sure all communication is in writing. If they phone you make it clear to them you will only communicate in writing. Ifthey attempt to browbeat you on the phone, don't lose your temper, just be very firm, repeat that you will only communicate in writing, then say "Good, now that you understand that, I look forward to receiving your letter/reply/whatever. Goodbye" and hang up.
If you want any help with letters then post a draft on here and we'll have a look before you send them.
If the debt was only 85 why are you paying £110?
    Is no longer here

.....and might be worth writing to them to tell them that you require contact only in writing. Once they have received it ie give them say 2 working days, log any calls from them. With regards to the employee of the company, if you have agreed a plan with the Director then I would write to the Director with regards to the manner in which you were spoken to since you were trying to confirm that a payment plan was in place and the person, did not treat you in a manner that you would expect from a professional company even when you told him the nature of your call.

Hi Wendy thanks for the reply,

The original debt was for 85.00 for when this was passed over to regal they said they were charging me £25 cos they were now dealing with it, i have had the £25 taken off but i had to fight to get that removed and ended up that i complained to FOS about it and got a letter from the Director saying that he had levied the charge if i agreed to pay the rest over 6 months, that is fine with me but as i said when i went to confirm this with them, the same obnoxios male pertaining to be a "supervisor" wouldn't let me speak said i had to pay in full and he didnt care about any letters etc.... I will take the advice now and not contact them again i have no reason too, when i called then yesterday i gave them my account details so they could set up the payment to come out automatically (now wish i hadn't cos i don't trust him with my details) i felt that was the only way he would stop shouting at me and being so abusive towards me..... i still think i should write to the director and complain about the way i have been treated, like "natweststaffmember" has said they are meant to be a professional company... i now understand why some people take drastic measures and feel they cant go on living...!!! hope they can sleep at night knowing that they put misery on peoples lives!

          Jules

A little trick I learnt, when someone talks at you and will not let you speak, or shouts or is rude, put the phone down on the table and only pick it up again when the person has stopped. Do it every time they start ranting.

          shell.
