My friend has a £12k 18-year old barclay card debt now with PRA, for which she has been paying £1 a month. I told her to get CCA. PRA can't provide it and said debt is unenforceable. If she stops paying the £1 a month will the debt come off her file after six years or just stay there forever? She offered them 5% but they came back asking for £8.5k to settle, no way can she afford that. So now she's wondering if there's anything she can do, to get the default off her credit file or will it stay there for her entire life. Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Will 18 yr old unenforceable barclay cc debt now with PRA EVER come off credit file

The debt is 'unenforceable'.
She should stop paying.
She shouldn't make offers without the words 'Without Prejudice' on the letter.
If she was Defaulted 18 years ago, then it should 'dropped off' 12 years ago.
The default should have 'dropped off' after 6 years after the account had been Defaulted.
Make some enquiries with the Credit Reference Agency.
Also make enquiries with the Information Commission Office.

Thank you, Echat11. I'll pass on about chatting to credit agency and ico.The problem is that she's been paying a quid a month for a long time, also same for another PRA debt going back to 2011, which presumably keep the debts 'current'. But if she stops paying this one, and they write to her won't their letters keep the debt current?
