Hello. We had an overpayment on tax credits-I believe my wife got a pay rise which meant we weren’t entitled to tax credits anymore. HMRC wanted just over a thousand. I wrote to them to say we weren’t in a position to pay it and I’d be paying £2.50 per week until we could. I continued to do this, I don’t recall how long for-a few weeks, couple of months etc. In December we had the money to pay off what was left, under a thousand, so we cleared it.
Today I’ve got a letter from Advantis saying they’d been instructed to collect what seems to be that amount again. I’m certain it’s a mistake and hope it will be easy to sort-any advice on that front would be appreciated.
Our main worry is that we’ve heard such mistakes can still affect your credit score, we’re about to start trying to buy a place and don’t need anything messing with our credit score. Any advice please?
