Hi everyone,
Like many others I have been contacted by Lowell financial regarding a supposed debt from 2014. The debt is for a supposedly outstanding payment on an EDF energy account, however, as far as I was aware, the account was payed off. I sent Lowell a letter stating I had no knowledge of the debt and happily carried on with my life. Fast forward several months and they have now passed the account to Lowell solicitors who have sent me a letter of claim, which states I have 30 days to respond before legal action.
Although I feel this debt is incorrect (and have informed Lowell of this in writing) it seems Lowell will issue a CCC unless I pay up. Is there any way to effectively dispute this or prevent the issue of a CCC? In response to my letter informing Lowell I had no knowledge of the debt, they have sent me a pdf copy of an old electricity bill from the period showing the amount outstanding. Does this really constitute proof of the debt?! Is the burden of proof now on me to prove that I have indeed paid it?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
