  • Reply from Sainsbury's Finance..

I wrote last week to reclaim 10 x £12.00 fees for late payment/over limit from 2007 which plus interest was £163.83.
Reply came which says "We believe that a charge of £12 reflects our costs. In 2006 the OFT carried out an investigation bla bla...We provided full details of our costs to OFT at that time. OFT said it would not take action on costs at £12 or less. We have had our costs Independently assessed and while I can not share that their findings show our costs were greater than £12.00. "

Is it worth sending the 2nd letter ?

Yes. What Sainsbury's have said is total BS.

I have sent a 2nd letter because after actually checking my back statements the Late payment fees were actually because i was paying what they agreed as a reduced payment but because it was less than the amount on the statement they have automatically charged me, even though I wasn't late. They also charged me for Over Limit despite agreeing reduced payments. So my claim is not so much that the Fees were excessive, but that they should not have been there at all. With Interest the 2 amounts add up to £182. They also charged me full interest on the balance during this period where they had agreed reduced payments, so I've asked for that as well...that was a lot of money.
