  • In over my head with credit card defaults

I was in a bad place financially about 3 years ago, i stupidly applied for credit cards to try and help me but i got in over my head with a vanquish card, an aqua card and a Tesco card. I stretched the truth regards my income on all 3 applications to get accepted. Not one of the companies asked for income proof etc and give me low credit limits which i managed to maintain. This was until credit limit rises were put on all 3 cards, with the aqua one going from 200 to 3000 in a matter of months. I wasn't working at the time and fell into the credit trap to survive. i defaulted on all 3 and the aqua one is being chased by Cabot financial, threatening with agent visits. I'm only working part time and literally earn just enough to cover my rent, council tax and water rates every week. i don't know what to do or how to deal with this in the right manner. My other question is how was it so easy for me to get this cards with no proof of income and the ability to pay and more so the credit increase. any help would be gratefully received

If they've increased your credit limit without carrying out 'due diligence' or without your 'authority', then lodge a formal complaint via the creditors website. Their investigations should suspend all collections activity.

If you get letters from collections agents, send them a letter, just explain that a formal complaint has been made to the creditor, so they should return the account to the creditor.

Also send them a SAR, make sure you get Proof of Postage.

You'll see what's happened and when it happened on your account.
