  • Letter from Opos on behalf of Cabot

Hi all I’m new to the forum and have a question.
I received a letter out of the blue from Opos saying they have been trying to contact me for a while on behalf of a debt owed to Cabot. The debt in question was a credit card debt which was purchased by Cabot. I’ve had absolutely no contact in about 3 - 4 years from Cabot now suddenly this letter from Opos with a settlement figure which they claim Cabot has authorised them to offer me, this is before they hand the debt back to Cabot.
The whole thing seems strange to me, I didn’t even know debt collection agencies passed the debt to another agency to collect on their behalf.
My question is - is this something that I should be concerned about or is this just a ploy to trick me into accepting the offer and pay?

    Good morning.

you say the debt was a credit card, how old are we talking here? Ie when did you take out the card ?

What happened to the card? did you stop paying or was there a dispute over something? what caused the breakdown with the card company.

Have you requested a copy of the credit agreement under s78 Consumer Credit Act and if so what was the reply.

Have you received a "Default notice" from the original credit card provider?

If you can fill in a few of the blanks that would be great
