I would write to RBS and suggest you view the removal of the defaults as an admission of liability and that if lititgation is required you will be proceeding on that basis, seeking that the court determine the quantum of damages.
If settling out of court, it is usual to accept a lower sum than if you went to court and fought all the way, refelecting the risk and stress involved in litigation, which you are avoiding, and the traidtionally appelaing formula of 'getting the money now !'
