I'd appreciate any help please before I write to the company to complain. I won't mention the company but it's one of the main supermarkets,
The other day I received an e-mail from them informing me about picking up a microwave cooker that I had bought, I hadn't bought a microwave from them but had been there earlier in the day to shop, we do have a credit card with that company so I phoned their banking section to try to sort it out, all they could tell me was that it was my account and that it had been paid for with a chip and pin and they offered no other assistance. My husband then went onto our internet banking to see if we could find out which card had been used, we have 5 bank accounts and a business account so it took quite a while, we decided to change the pin numbers while we were into the accounts in case our card had been cloned, understandably we were in a bit of a panic not knowing what was happening, we then went to the shop to their pick up section and spoke to the assistant there he said, Oh I know all about it, what happened was someone placed an order for a microwave and the postcodes were the same and your account must have been used, don't worry they paid for it with their card but you will get their points, which I thought was a bit flip but at least it wasn't any of our cards had been cloned. I do have a neighbour with the same surname and I presumed it must have been them, although, I do think that they should have checked the house number before they placed the order. A couple of days passed I had received two more e-mails from them to let me know the status of the order but presumed that it had all been sorted so ignored them, last night I received a phone message from a lady who was the original purchaser of the microwave, when I called her back she thought my phone number was the shop number and she though she was leaving a message for them, anyhow she was as concerned as I was because she had something she had bough and the receipt was in my name she had been to the shop and they had told her to ignore it, everything would be o.k. and if there was a problem with the product she had the receipt so basically it would be fine, but during the conversation she mentioned she knew it wasn't her account they had used as she hadn't spent as much money as I had there, and this is my grievance with them she had a receipt with my name, address and phone number also how much I had spent with them, points etc, incidentally she lives nowhere near me in fact another part of town altogether, so the explanation of the same postcodes being used was a complete lie, in my mind this is a breach of the freedom of information act, I met the lady there this morning to both complain together and we spoke to the duty manager who agreed with us that it was a complete mess, she said 3 times she had tried to get the receipt in my name cancelled and a new one issued in her name and was told it wasn't possible, there wasn't a problem, she may not have but I do, as it was this lady appeared to be quite respectable and was as concerned as I was but it could have been any one who wasn't as honest as her and they would have had all my personal details which they could have done anything with, the duty manager told us to put it all in a letter to the manager and drop it in tomorrow but I have contacted this forum to see if you could help out with what my legal rights are regarding this mess. thanks for any help given.
