  • Signed a permission for credit check, but it turned out to be a loan agreement

A friend was approached by Solar Panel/Green Energy company. The company says in its on-line brochure that they visit the home and send a "proposal" to the credit company for credit check + approval. It says that once the credit is approved they do a survey and send a quote.

However, what she signed (this was the first visit) was a Fixed Sum Loan Agreement, and included giving her bank details.

She says she thinks she may even have signed something else too but does not have a copy so we are not sure about this.

She has now (one day later) e-mailed to company asking them to cancel any agreements she has made with them or the finance company.

Has she over-reacted? Was it simply a credit check? How can she find out what else she may have signed?

Cancel the whole thing. Do so in writing. Send Recorded Delivery and keep a copy.

Thanks for replying. I rang C.A.B. who said yes, cancel as we have done (by email), and we will follow up with recorded delivery letter. And ring them to find out what else got signed. Did that, and they said the other document was an agreement to go on to the next stage and do a survey. They said not leaving a copy of the other agreement was a simple mistake. He said he'd look for both the originals and send them to us to destroy. It all sucks, doesn't it?
