  • Solicitor Threatening me with Bankruptcy

Hi, this is a weird one.

The solicitors I employed over a very complex property dispute (I was the innocent party and I won) are now threatening to bankrupt me over the last £8000 in fees. I have already paid £40,000 to them.

They wrote not to me, but to my BROTHER to say this, he was also a client of the firm for different reasons. They said they were bothered by my 'unconcern'.

I am in no way trying to avoid the debt, completely stunned they are now being so aggressive as have had no phone calls, letters or emails prior to the letter to my brother..... I can make payment proposals.... but my feeling is:

    a) I think this is a breach of client confidentiality in writing to my brother not me (not to mention extremely sexist and annoying)
    b) having spent so much money with them shouldn't they have tried to make contact with me first? I have never changed my mobile no or email address despite a few address changes....

We are talking about a major London firm of solicitors who do an enormous amount for charities etc..... I'm really shocked....

Have looked at the SRA site and I think they are in the wrong....

Good news! Breach of client comnfidentiality and slagging you off to a third party.

Report them to the law society with a copy of the .letter.

Refuse to do any businmes with tham and claim damages to the value o their lleged claim.
    Thanks!
