I grow all my own fruit and veg, this is the dead bit of year though, all I have left is some bits of spinich, kale, onions, rocket, leeks and carrots. Have to wait a few months for things to start growing again

      Re: High street price traps

Did my shop today Macho, am doing week 2 (I know! but the kids decided lol) so in the book it was £24.67 and my receipt for the products on the list was £25.70. Not a bad estimate! actually thinking on it I had to get some paprika too (cause I'd run out and its in one of the recipes but not on the list) so take that off and its probably about right. i was a bit anal and made the cashier put that shopping through first and give me a receipt before i put drinks, cereal and crap through (only another £14) so fingers crossed if it lasts thats £39.70 for the weeks food. I expect there will be the odd top up but thats certainly better than usual thus far

Was a bit naughty and didnt follow the recipe to the letter... seriously courgettes have no place in a chilli..courgettes in chilli is just wrong lol I think she adds them as a way of hiding veggies from kids I dont have kids so I didnt put them in, will use them up later in the week in the veggie burgers.

So are you have the roast chicken tonight?

              Re: High street price traps

Have not separted it all out yet but just did my shopping and spent £52.54p again half of what I would normally spend.

I ahvent folowed the menu this week as there isnt really a subsitute for roast chicken and the meal the next day is meant to be left over from the chicken and then there is a fishy meal as well....

This week I am having Lentil Moussaka, Vegetarian Shephards Pie, Sweet and Sour Vegetables, Vegetarian Toad in the hole, Stuffed Mushrooms with Couscous.

Loved DIY pasta sauce - frankfurters (veggie ones at least are gross and Im not having them again)

Veggie burger needs a bit of work...

              Stuffed peppers were yum

So far I am impressed I have cut my weekly shopping bill in half! and Ive filled the freezer with left overs.

The main thing I think is to plan your meals for the week and write a shopping list of all the ingredients. Common sense to some I guess but never done it before

Well I managed the evening meals on three nights of the five Havent done this weeks shopping yet, tomorrows job. Probably spent another £30 on bread milk and bits and bobs for snacks and breakfasts through the week....so need to watch that a bit more too.

Must try harder...the books great though, I just need more discipline
