NatWest charges

Hi all

Can anyone tell me if the bank is allowed to apply unauthorised overdraft charges on an account where the charges have caused the account to go over the overdraft?

I'm not meaning the overdraft interest - the £6 charge has caused the account to go over - and it is just snowballing.

Any ideas please?

Unfortunately overdrafts and their fees are part of the bank's terms and conditions. They do have to be clear and transparent with their charges. The other from money advice service just an overview of overdrafts. Sure you probably have this info already. The best bet is to always arrange the overdraft if at all possible which will prevent the charges accruing quite so rapidly. https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.u...ned-overdrafts

Did they send out you a statement that would have shown that the charge was due to go out?
Was this the first occasion that this happened? If it was then they might consider refunding it as a gesture of goodwill providing that you dealt with the original issue that caused it to go overdrawn immediately.

If it is having a specifically financial issue that may cause you to be unable to pay for rent/mortgage, utilities and/or council tax then you might want to approach them under the issue of financial hardship(lending code section 9).
