The banks systems are automated so when a prelim letter goes in, it does not change the automation of the banks systems so the bank will charge you as per usual if no money is in the account to cover payments going out of the account. If you have opened a parachute account- this refers to an account at another bank, then you have begun the fight back by keeping tabs on the balance and making sure money is in the account to cover payments going out. This means you have a fresh start and once you have won your claim, and if further charges were applied to the old debt ridden one, then claim them back and then kiss good bye to the old bank.
