  • Rarely used account suddenly charged £120. Am overseas so action difficult!

I have a HSBC UK account linked to paypal, which I occasionally use to buy things online with. Paypal tried to debit the acct 3 times in Nov and all were rejected for insufficient funds (these were all in the region of £10 for books etc.). I got charged £60 at the end of the month for this. I came to the UK in Dec to visit friends & family etc so I put £1,000 in the acct to use as spending money. At the end of the month I got charged another £60 and I simply don't know why. The account is now £40 overdrawn as a result. I have used their contact forms on their website 3 or 4 times now but with no response. I can't call because I am currently in a remote part of Uganda where phone reception is terrible so you can't actually hear international calls, and even when you can, the cost (especially when on hold) is astronomical. Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi Egglord
    Welcome to Legal Beagles.
You need to get hold of your bank statement to see where the money has gone to or phone HSBC customer services to go through all the entries to find out whether someone has been accessing your account unbeknown to you as there may have been some activity that you are not aware of and they may pass you to the fraud dept.

I suspect Paypal may have tried for payment more times or its a mistake by the bank it should all show up on a statement
