  • Santander unauthorised all my direct debits

    HI

I took a loan out with Santander over the phone and at the same time they offered me a bank account which I agreed to take. They also asked If I wanted to let them transfer all my direct debits with them from my halifax bank account, to which I declined, as I was going to think about which ones I wanted to move.

Cut a long story short I have noticed today that none of my direct debits have come out of my Halifax account. They have all come out of my Santander account, which has no funds to cover them, so they have all been rejected.

I didn't give my consent for any direct debits to come out of Santander. I have spoken to them and they have agreed that they don't have any proof that I authorised this. They have told me that I have to contact all the company's concern to change my direct debits back! Surely they changed it they should change it back. Halifax have not been helpful either as they say that Santander have requested them to transfer all D.D. at my request.

Please can someone give me advise on where I go from here? Also can I claim compensation for the extra charges I have incurred? I.e. interest added to my mortgage as not paid on time.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Santander unauthorised all my direct debits

Hang on a second, that is BS. You need to write to Santander and request two things:

    1) An apology and a refund of ALL Direct debit charges.

    2) They need to write to all the companies apologising for their error in transferring the direct debits across from your account.

    3) I think they should compensate you for time, inconvenience and for the amount of money it will cost you to resolve this issue not forgetting that your credit record has been shot to bits as a result of THEIR mistake.

Use this email which means it should get to their executive complaints team: ceo@santander.co.uk

I would add that you need to put in a chronological story of what happened and what you were told by their telephonic muppet and that it is simply unreasonable and unacceptable.
