I have just heard recently a friend of mine got a refund cheque for several thousand pounds from Halifax for repaying her mortgage off early. Apparently in the letter from Halifax it said that they are not allowed to charge for early repayments anymore so here's her money back. How nice for her since she was not expecting this at all and to get this cheque out of the blue was obviously great.
Could someone please explain how this works and how it can benefit the rest of us? She redeemed her mortgage in 2008.
