This thread is kinda a response to saffy's solutions and perhaps explanations why this happens.

To recap on post 1: More people on the counters.

Many of the branches work understaffed and with Saturday opening means that they will work with almost a skeleton staff. Furthermore, if they are overstaffed then the branch is pushed into sending anyone off to cover another branch.

on point 2: phone calls from overseas.
I do agree with saffy on this point, and the main reason why this has been outsourced is because of costs involved. Unfortunately, profit over service.

Thanks for that Natty, perhaps a small point though why on earth don't the banks open the counters up at 'core' times, ie lunchtime or should another solution be to ask the members public who do not work ie: the unemployed, pensioners, mums at home etc not to attend during those hours therefore allowing the workers to be served quicker.
Mind you then I suppose that could be extended to general shopping too, ooooooo imagine Tesco's during the evenings and weekends with hardly anyone in there, bliss.
Anyways back on subject I think the 'core' hours idea would be good.

RBS Group had initiatives on this issue such as aces in spaces(that meant covering the till by those who normally would be sat around the back ie manager's or deputy managers{who usually were crap cashiers}), split lunches so that the tills were manned during lunchtime period(so caused a queue earlier in the day) and business tills. You will never have a perfect solution and furthermore, why work for a bank nowadays?
