Hi guys and Gals.
I maybe wrong but I am 1000% positive I am right. Let me try and explain and scenario and maybe you guys and gals can either come up with a different conclusion or agree with what Barclays have said and deem the charges collectable..
Month 1
Total payment in £800
01/01 Payment in £800
01/01 D/D out £300
01/01 D/D out £150
Available to withdraw £350
01/01 you make some purchases using your debit card to £200
01/01 £50
01/01 £90
01/01 £35
01/01 £25
Your balance now shows account bal £350
Available to withdraw £150
You then withdraw this as you want to pay for something to this value on 02/01
so your account balance on this day shows £200
Available to withdraw £0
As the £200 is sitting in a suspense account waiting to be collected by the purchaser who you have authroised to collect payment.
now then on 03/01 You have a D/D payment hit your account you completely forgotton about, you know there is no money in your account as it now shows
Month 1
Total payment in £800
01/01 Payment in £800
01/01 D/D out £300
01/01 D/D out £150
02/01 Cash £150
Account bal £200
Avail to withdraw £0
03/02 D/D £75
This now takes your account balance into negative -£75
bearing in mind you made purchases earlier which have already left your account waiting to clear.
The bank later that day, cancels the D/D instructions and returns the account balance to how it was before the D/D hit it.
But their new crazy system, thinks that as this payment hit your account your pending transactions should now be GUARANTEED and they hit with you £8 charges for each one of them, even though they have already been honoured and paid and are in the banks suspense account system waiting to be collected and as the bank bounced your D/D bearing in mind they are already hitting you with a charge for that and double whammy hitting you for something they are saying they guaranteeing, but never did cos it was paid and your account balance is still within its limits of the terms and conditions.
I have spoken to many managers on this and they all agree with me..But get through to another department they are like bloody robots and insist the money is collectable because as soon you use your debit card for a transaction they guaranteeing the payment and are therefore allowed to charge you for doing so. I said you you are charging customers for using a denit card as if they have a credit card but bear in mind if the customer has no funds in their account the payment would be declined so you are guaranteeing nothing, as payment is agreed with available funds. She refused to budge and said we are not refunding you, end of.
What do you guys and gals think? Am I wrong or am I cluctching at straws?
