My Account closed with no notice

I recieved an arreas notice from HSBC asking me to call them regarding the balance i owe from a loan i had with them. I had not made a payment for 6 months. I rang them and got through to the call centre. They said mt account was closed and they could not help me. The letter clearly stated that my account would be charged if i didn't make a payment but they cant because they have closd my account. It did not mention any closure of my account or that they intended to close my account, so when i was due to get paid 2 days later there were nowhere for my wages to get paid and my mobile phone was barred as they had cancelled the direct debit. My question is can they cl0ose my account like this with no notice when a payment was due to in also. Please help

They can close a personal account if you have a debt outstanding with a loan with a similar provider. It is called the right of set off.

Have your wages gone into that account or have you been able to sort out another account?
