  • being threatened with Bankrupcy

In December of 2012 I moved into a rented house, within a few days problems started developing, the heating didn't work properly leaving some rooms totally unusable over the winter (which was bad that year) My step daughter ran a bath and the water poured through the ceiling ruining the suite etc I complained to the landlords agents (Reed Rains) and was told over and over someone would be out to look at the problems, no one ever did come. I started refusing to pay the rent (which was substantial per month) until the problems were fixed so the landlord evicted us, even though we have found somewhere else and moved out, he took me to court but sent all the papers to the house I had moved out of and given back possesion which seems stupid to me. the first I heard of it was 6 months later when High Court Enforcement officers turned up on the doorstep, I signed the dposit of £1200 over to the landlord but this still leaves £4000 outstanding.

Because of all this I lost the house we were in as the landlords didn't want us living there under the circumstances, myself and my finace argued so much she took the kids and left and my health suffered so badly I am now taking 60mg of prozac a day just to make it through the day.

I was self employed but because of my health issues the business went bust and the DSS refuse to give me anything to live on, I have now had the landlords solicitors on threatening to go for bankruptcy within 14 days if I don't respond. I emailed back within minutes and my mother has offered £20 per month out of her pension until I can get better and sort something better out. Today the solicitors have come back again threatening bacnkruptcy.

Now, I own - NOTHING, I have no savings, no car, no house, no belongings but the clothes i walk around in so if they went forward with bankruptcy surely I would be made bankrupt for the 12 months but with no assests to my name the landlord would just lose out ?

Can someone please put it in dummies terms for me ??
