Hi all. At the end of last year, I made 2 payment arrangements with Rossendales regarding last year's and the previous year's outstanding council tax - one for £49 per month (total debt £349.46) and one for £21 (£211.17 total debt) per month. I had letters to state that these amounts would be debited every 31 days until the account is paid in full..
Today I had a letter through my door from a Rossendales enforcement agent, saying they would take control of goods to enforce the debt outstanding of £240.46. Considering i had not missed any payments, and not understanding why this debt was so large, I rang the agent who informed me that there was an outstanding amount of £5.46 on the account I had been paying £49 per month on.and the remaining £235 was debt collection fees for her visit today.
I explained that all payments had been taken by Rossendales, and they were still (up to this month) taking the £21 for the separate debt. She checked the account, and it stated the last payment of £49 had been taken on 20th May this year, leaving a balance of £5.46, and then the payment plan had been cancelled on the 23rd May. I did not cancel the payment plan, which can only mean that Rossendales did. The payments were not made by direct debit, but by recurring card authority. I assumed that this was flexible, unlike direct debit, but Rossendales are saying they are not able to change the amount, hence the final fiver outstanding.
I'm furious. Why should I have to pay £235 when they had stated (in writing) that the monthly payments would be taken until the amount was paid in full.
Where do I stand with regard to having to pay the enforcement agent fee?
