A friend has had a letter from Collectica for non payment of a court fine of £255 that was issued in 2013. She was 17 at the time and had no income until 4 weeks later when she turned 18. She did this and it took about 6 weeks for any money to come through so she was unable to make a payment.
2 weeks later, she was remanded into custody for a year and was unable to make a payment. She was released from prison in December 2014 as the charges against her were dropped. She made a new JSA claim and started to get money coming in about a month ago.
Collectica issued an enforcement notice on 29th Jan for collection of the whole amount plus a further £75.
She wants to write and explain the situation but who should she write to? Should it go to Collectica or the court?
Is there any legislation about how court fines can/should be paid if you are in custody?
Also, she wants to avoid paying the extra £75 - is there any way around this?
Any help very much appreciated
