  • JBW debt collectors, parking ticket

I received a parking ticket earlier this year on a public road in Birmingham in a Restricted Zone (No Loading).

I forgot to pay the fine (I had quite a lot going on in this period) and a month or so later went on operations abroad with the army. Earlier this month I returned to the UK and have found that the council have been writing to me, and I'm now getting letters from JBW debt collectors saying they're going to do various things (enter my house, seize my car etc).

The latest correspondence is a note through my door saying they arrived with the intention of seizing goods to be sold at auction but I wasn't in. The current amount they're asking for is ~£430.

I want to know where I stand and if I have any chance of getting it reduced to the £130 I owe the council for the offence. Also I'd like to know what JBW's rights are to my property and what right they have to add fees to the amount owed.

    Many thanks for your help.

Hi Kim 2000 and welcome to the forum.

Hell will freeze over before the £310.00 added (quite legally, see Court and tribunals Enforcement act 2007 and the new schedules of fees wich were introduced in April this year....plenty of references in the sticky section of this forum) will be removed.

I am afraid you caused yourself the headache by not paying the ticket on time. Just because you were too busy with other things won't stack up with nobody.
The Black rat (Rattus rattus) is a common (hence the accusation of being Pleb) long-tailed rodent of the genus Rattus (rats) in the subfamily Murinae (murine rodents). The species originated in tropical Asia and spread through the Near East in Roman times (another thing that we ought to thanks the Romans for, besides roads, aqueducts and public toilets) before reaching Europe by the 1st century and spreading with Europeans across the world.

A mutation of the beast now comes black leather clad, riding a motorcycle that looks like a battenbergh cake on wheels.

A skilled predator, totally ruthless with it's prey, but also known to be extremely generous in doling out tickes that can provide points for motorists who want to downsize from mechanically propelled vehicles to bycicles.

It's a dirty job, but someone got to do it!
