    Please help - Bristol Sutor Bailiffs for Council Tax

    Pleaseeeee Help! ((

    I moved to my current house in late March 2013. Later I have received a letter from the council stating that I owe £52 as my council tax with having an option of paying it on an installment (£6 monthly) . I didn't receive anything since then till today that I received a very threatening letter from Buristow and Sutor Civil Enforcement agent stating that I have to make full payment of £1237!!!! immediately otherwise they will seize my belongings. Based on my tenancy contract I am a single occupier and I have filled out the single occupancy reduction form and submitted several times. I am also working as an intern here with a minimal salary. I still haven't even lived here for 12 months (its almost 7 months) how can it be that expensive based on council website its £1102 annually without any reduction. Please advise me on what to do and I am really vulnerable here. Really appreciated your quick response and your help and advise on this. I kept all the proof if required (council letter, my tenancy agreement and also my payslip) they are coming to visit on Wednesday again. what should I do please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          Have you been in touch with the council since the reminder letter re the £52, and have you made any of the installment payments ?

          Have you not received anything at all from the council regarding a liability order ? Quite often you can get a letter asking for a few weeks arrears, but next letter is usually a court letter, then the bailiffs.

            Whatever happens DO NOT LET THE BAILIFFS IN!

            Get in touch with the Council TODAY, and speak to someone in charge in the Treasury Department and put your case to them, but mainly ask why from £52 it's gone to to £1102.

              Just a thought on how the figure jumped to what it is - you say you movd in in march which is the kast month of the financial year so the £52 would have been the small amount owed for last year. It sounds as though you have already been charged for this years ct in full, however you should have had correspondance prior to bailiffs being instructed (reminders, summons, notice of l/o?). As stated by sir vere above you should gobtsct the council immediately to ascertain how tho has progressed without your knowledge.
