  • mackenzie hall letter

Hi all. This time last yaer i recieved a letter from mackenzie hall saying they were vhasing a debt of £138.28. i emailed them asking for info on where the debt has come from, as far as im aware i have no debts. i never heard back. i wont ring as i have heard that the phone number is a really expensive number to call.
So exactly a year later after no more letters, i recieve the same letter just with different date on. so i email again and say, i need the info on where the debt has come from. no reply came from them. i rung all companies that the debt could be from and i owe nothing to anybody. So today i get another letter saying that their client will settle the debt for a lower amount of 96.74!! i didnt think debts got lower to be honest. i have not made any more effort to contact them yet as i would like some advice on what to do.
They have also said they will sent a doorstep visit to my house!! its really annoying me and upsetting me.
Can anyone give me some advice please?

See you posted on "my" thread" write a prove it letter (again) do not sign it or just ignore is the advice given to me, they appear to deal in unenforceable or statute barred accounts

Statute Barred is where there's been no payment or written acknowledgment for 6 years or more (5 in Scotland). In this case the alleged debt is no longer recoverable through the courts.

Most of those threats are just empty threats to frighten people into picking up the phone and ringing the DCA, when they will be bullied into making a payment. If you are worried about it you could send them a letter such as this one ---> http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...885#post307885

It is an alleged debt where no payment or written acknowledgement has been made within a prescribed time.

In Scotland, the statute is the Prescription and Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973 (link) - see section 6 and schedule 1. The prescribed period is five years, whereafter the obligation to pay is extinguished.

In England and Wales, the statute is the Limitation Act 1980, section 5 (link). The prescribed period is six years, after which the alleged debt cannot be enforced.

Tell them plainly and clearly that their doorstep collector has no right to take away your doorstep and that, if he does, you will report him to the police.
